St. John’s Episcopal Church
Mission Statement |
"To seek the leadership of Jesus in all our decisions,
that our faith
and love might overflow to God's world." |
Who We Are
Saint
John's is a congregation
composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds of age and interest who,
together, enrich the corporate life of the parish through worship, Bible study
and outreach activities to the Greater-Lowell area and to the
Merrimack
Valley.
In collaboration with the Diocese of
Massachusetts and other area churches and denominations,
St. John's was a sponsor in the formation of the Merrimack Valley
Project in the early 1990's. (The Merrimack
Valley Project (MVP) includes labor unions and other
institutions dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens, with
a special focus on empowering the poor and dispossessed. At present, MVP is
working to address the inequalities experienced by temporary workers -
especially those from the Southeast Asian and Hispanic communities - due to
language and other cultural barriers.)
The Gothic style building was constructed of
Westford granite in the 1860's and is highly regarded by church architects
because of its multi-colored stained glass windows and vaulted ceiling which is
supported by hand-carved arches.
The organ at St. John's is a George Ryder Opus #3 Tracker-Action Pipe Organ that
is valued by organ historians and has been enjoyed by generations of
worshippers.
